Allergy Tests

Allergy skin and blood (serology) tests are relatively simple and safe, even for young children, and provide results in minutes.

An accurate allergy diagnosis is a delicate professional determination best left to allergists and other physicians trained in allergy medicine. Testing for allergies is complex. Unlike pregnancy tests, which are quick, reliable and inexpensive, allergy tests present biological variability in allergen materials; this explains the importance of having an allergy specialist perform and interpret these tests. Approximately 25% of tests may be falsely positive, whereas 10% can be falsely negative.

Your medical history and symptoms will prompt an allergist or allergy specialist to suspect one or more allergens to be the cause of the problem. The following step will involve allergy testing to establish accurate diagnosis.
